Amai

Ice skating

Today was Amai’s first ice-skating lesson. It was hilarious. She had a ball and only cried once when she really wiped out hard. Of course it may take several weeks to just start moving forward, but it was so funny to watch. At one point they sat the kids on plastic frisbees and pushed them across the ice rink. She laughed that huge belly laugh of hers and it is so cute and funny that all the parents in the stands laughed too. I love it when she laughs…

I have to just say that I am such a huge fan of all the programs that are offered through community rec centers. They’re super cheap, just enough teaching for the age range without being too serious, and there is a wide range of activities to choose from each semester. I love it! The awesome thing is that I can sign her up for different things almost every month or two- so she has the benefit of trying different things and eventually we have the benefit of being able to see where her natural abilities are without spending a fortune.

I took both the kids to the grocery store today and gave them a couple of m&m’s as a reward for doing so well there. Amai ate hers quickly and neatly, as she has always tended to- Ashe ate his slowly and messily, as he has always done!

I bought some reusable grocery bags- they work well and hold so much more than a plastic bag. Plus they aren’t wasteful. I’m not as green as I could be, but we are making more and more efforts to be both organic and green as a family. We make sure and buy milk that is hormone free- meat, veggies, and fruit that are organic (unless we are extremely pinched for money)- and I’ve tried really hard not to waste food at all. The next thing I want to do is to start a compost pile and start growing a few herbs and eventually fruits and veggies in a garden. Not yet though- I need a little more of the house remodeling to get done first.
