Today, while I was at home for lunch, Mai Mai made repeated trips to Kerri’s plate of food to snatch her cheddar and sour cream potato chips. I instructed her to “stop,” which immediately meant there had to be a conflict about the issue. After making a few bodily gestures of disapproval about my order to leave Kerri’s food alone, Mai Mai proceeded to call me a “french fry” as she strutted out of the room. And even though I know she meant to be disrespectful, I couldn’t help but laugh at the silliness of her insult.

Today was crazy. That’s all I’ll say about it and now I’m just going to move on to something much lighter. Amai and I had a funny moment the other day.

Since Chris and I are both night owls, we get ourselves into loads of trouble by staying up way too late almost every night. Once the kids are in bed, there are all the evening routines to do- clean up the mayhem, do the dishes, do some laundry or other weekly task, get lunches made for the next day, etc. So in the midst of all that we have to do Chris and I try to have a little time left for the things we want to do.

Since I started Baby McGee, a lot of my free time has been used for that. The other bit of free time I usually spend keeping in touch with all the people I care about, or doing something for MOPS, and that leaves very little time for anything else. Needless to say- about ten o’clock at night is when Chris and I usually start getting into good conversations or have the chance to watch a movie, blah blah blah.

We are just a bit sleep deprived is what I’m trying to get to. And to top that off, I’ve been really trying to get up earlier than my kids do to have some moments to myself, to pray, to spend just a little time with God before I blaze a new trail for the day. Last week I had gotten up super early one morning to do those things and though I felt amazing when the day started, by the time Ashe took his morning nap at 9 I was ready to pass out again.

I didn’t realize how tired I was until I was laying on my bed with Amai watching “Finding Nemo” for the 10th time in a week. I thought I was fully aware of my surroundings, but suddenly I jerked and realized that I had been asleep. Amai was staring at me and smiling. She said, “Mama what was that?!!!”(in her dramatic way of saying things!) Pause. “What was what, Mai Mai?” And then she proceeded to make the most horrible snorting sound I’ve heard in a while and said, “Your nose was making a funny sound.” More smiling and a little giggle.

So apparently I snore sometimes. And the sad part is that I think that’s what woke me up- not my leg jerking. Go ahead, laugh- I did!

Things are going well here apart from my occasional snoring. We’re very busy lately with the kids- all the playdates, birthday parties, school stuff, church stuff, family stuff, etc. It’s all good stuff. Today the kids got their flu shots, so I’m expecting a little grumpiness tomorrow. Other than that- lately I just feel so thankful for our family, our lives together, all that we have been given, all the people in our lives. My cup runneth over…

Here’s a cute pic of Amai from last night at bedtime. Enjoy! Hope you all are well!
